The mailbox is larger than I expected, it was easy to install, my only complaint is the flat head screws that were provided - they went directly in the garbage. Why not provide screws that use a Philips head screwdriver? Otherwise I'm very happy with the mailbox.I bought this mailbox on April 25,2015. I like the design and the size. I also understand that it's made of sheet steel with a zinc plating, then painted with a copper-looking paint; my wife refused to let me spent $400 on a solid copper mailbox and this was my compromise. The mailbox is mounted on my brick house with a 3/4" wood spacer behind it and stainless steel fasteners. It sits under a 2' overhand, so it rarely gets directly rained on. Every so often I wipe the road dirt off it with a damp cloth.Today when I cleaned it off I noticed the RUST forming on the cut edged of the sheet metal. This is less than 1 year after I put it up. When you cut a piece of zinc-plated steel, the cut edge has no zinc to protect it and it will rust sooner than the rest of the thing. The rust will also grow inside the seams at a slower rate.I wanted to let you know about this development if you're thinking of buying this mailbox. It is attractive and it is a good size for just about any mail that gets delivered. I am a very handy guy, so I don't mind working on it a bit to prolong it's life; however, if you are looking for a mailbox which looks like this and will last for the rest of your life w/o any issues...spend $400 on solid copper ; )Cheaply made . looks kind of coolAmazon tells me that I bought this in August 2014. It's now April 2019, and one of the hinges has rusted away. This has been a great mailbox, and I'm getting another one.I live in Maine, and do not have a porch or anything... this has been attached to the house next to my front door all this time. It is seriously exposed to the elements. The most I ever do is scrape some ice or snow off the top, and only because I was thinking it was helping to protect my mail, not because I was thinking about rust. It might be a smidge rusty on the corners, but nothing like what I've seen here, so maybe I was just lucky?Love the large size -- I get a lot of small packages and this was part of the reason for choosing this particular mail box. But it's attractive as well. It's obvious that either, someone else returned this item after receiving it damaged - or it was dinged in the warehouse and they are selling it at discount. I got a deal on it, so I am not going to raise a fuss. And I think they said something about it being a return, or maybe it said something that implied shopware, but they did not say "it has dings on it". {Shrug} I think the size was listed weird too, they were calling the width 5" inches or something, which is confusing. The DEPTH of it is 5"! This box is like the size of a book bag, or a squatty briefcase. It is copper COLORED, but the material has a more tin-ish, probably zinc character to it. I like it that it's got a deep fold-down on the lid, but I am reasonably sure my mail carrier is going to be pretty annoyed at how much extra lift he will have to exert to open the box. On the other hand, he will have plenty of room to drop in the junk mail and magazines... In order to discourage theft, I am going to use long drilled plates as inside and outside brackets to mount it and it tighten it up.Warning this mail box does not come with mounting screws! But once I found some screws long enough laying around my house I had No problems installing it! The box itself is nice and big! I get news papers almost every day and I'm glad to know if I go on vacation they will all fit in the mail box and not be thrown on the ground!I've had a few close calls already with the pointy tip on the lid below the handle. When its open watch out for your head and eyes if you want to look inside the box, the pointy part will be directed at your head! Sounds silly but if you get one you'll know what i mean. Overall, I love this mail box! It's spacious (enough for small packages) and the copper looks great outside my house matching my light fixtures on my porch! It's the best price I've found for a copper mail box and I looked EVERYWHERE.This is a great mail box for $58. I dont know what people expect for that money? You get less and its plastic! I was so happy when i saw the size and the actual box in front of me. Its a lot nicer than we expected for so little money. Copper is suppose to petina as it ages, now this is probably coated albeit not well, but as seen in some of the photos this copper proves its not the best copper. So hense the price. If you are worried and you want to preserve it go to the paint store and buy a product to seal it better! Especially if its out in the harsh weather! Also as another bit of info i worked for Expo Design Center before they closed and we did sell Imax products all the time there everything "big sellers"I had been wanting this mailbox for over a year and finally bought it. I love the idea and it mounted very securely with a shim between the box and the wall to help the lid open more freely. The only thing I wish is that it would stay open while I am trying to grab mail from it (maybe I will add a second shim or washers behind the box). I love how the top is the so big that I can put my outgoing mail on top so as not to be missed. Some would complain about it turning green and calling this rot. I would like to point out that the green rot is PATINA. It is, after all, a COPPER mailbox. Isn't patina part of the reason people buy copper things? I know that's why I do.
