Nana Mouskouri is a great singer and my favorite since my childhood. Neither one of us is a spring chicken any more since I have heard her first when she started her international career in Germany in 1958 or so. I have followed her ever since. The selections on these 20 discs attest to her greatness. If you do not know Nana Mouskouri at all, this is a great collection to start with. And that's what I mean: To start with. If you know her French output, you may find the selection of songs somewhat arguable, also because of the selective presentation of her French recordings. I would have preferred complete albums. Unfortunately the "coffret" of her French recordings (with complete albums) released decades ago is no longer available, so this may be the most extensive collection of her French recordings currently available. Some songs are presented repeatedly in different versions and in different languages (White Roses of Athens, Plaisir d'Amour, the Prisoners' Choir from Verdi's "Nabucco" come to mind) - opinions may certainly differ about that.I am less happy with the packaging. Presenting the 20 CDs in a book is certainly an elegant idea, but they are squeezed into tight slots and quite troublesome to get in and out. I have read references to her complete English works, and that release is certainly more practicably packaged. That would have been a better solution. And there is no excuse for cutting short Track 24 on CD 6. And when you open up the booklet, you see her in that funny looking heart-shaped dress which also graces the box of her complete English recordings. Was that necessary?Overall, I am not so sure that this release does much of a favor to this great singer, who is certainly deserving a better deal. I would have liked to give this collection five stars but I withhold one because of the poor design of the packaging and I withhold another because of the inexcusable lapse with Track 24 on CD 6.
