This set of five one-hour programmes, where each episode covers one decade, is an excellent overview of the steam locomotive during the times of the "Big Four" until its demise on British Railways. All of the big four, or corresponding region, is covered in each episode, although, perhaps, the LNER/Eastern region gets short shift compared with the other three. There is also some coverage of systems outside the major companies, e.g. the Longmoor Military Railway. The pace of the programmes is quite rapid and, consequently, one really needs to see it more than once to fully pick up and digest all the information it contains. However, that is really a good excuse to see it again!
