This is a great box, no doubt. Less than the wood would cost to build it yourself, but machine cut, smooth edges, nicely finished. As nice as any box I've seen in any CrossFit box. It's very sturdy, and I Iove the handle cutouts.That being said, the assembly was not fun. I won't say it wasn't easy, it was easy, it just wasn't fun. The ends of each side go on top of the adjoining side. The top piece has a nice hole with a counter-sink in it, there is no hole in the lower piece. Not a problem, really, since the screws are more than sharp enough to pierce the wood. The problem is that they are Allen head screws.The screws come with a tiny Allen tool, pictured here. I included a penny in the picture for scale. At first, I thought, no problem! I have Allen wrench bits of every size in my collection to put in my cordless screwdriver. But I was wrong. I have all sizes EXCEPT this one. I don't know if this is a custom size or if I've magically misplaced this size bit from the 3 different sets I own, but there was no bit found at my house.So, I used the Allen wrench it came with. It took a lot of force on the wrench to get the screws started. After that, some went in smoothly, but many did not. I had to take a break and wait to finish until the next day to prevent getting blisters on the pads of my thumb and fingers. You can also see in the image that by the time I was done, the Allen wrench itself was stripped a bit.All-in-all, it wasn't a HORRIBLE experience, but I would gladly have paid a price of, say, $5 more to get a better Allen tool. Perhaps like the ratcheting ones Ikea includes? Or just make the screws Phillips head.I will include this qualification: It could be that the company is smarter than me, and they know that using a cordless drill or screwdriver would have caused the wood to split or some other thing to make the box not as nice. A sentence or two in the instructions stating that would have made me feel better about it.I purchased the small size plyo box 12/14/16 inch. This size box is perfect for box squats since it allows me to go parallel or just below. Also great for step ups. Easily handles the weight of a grown man. This box is too small for box jumps for most adults (would recommend a large padded box for that use, for safety). I use this box a lot as a seat at the cable machine for seated rows and such.Box comes in several colors and is easy to put together as everything is predrilled. The handle holes make the box easy to move/carry. This is a great addition to a home gym.P.S. The kids also love the box as a step stool or seat.If you have put an Ikea item together this is easy to assemble. Just look at the pictures and don't tighten until the end. It isn't heavy so easy to move around. I got this size so I can do bench squats and step ups and holds up. Also a good step stool. You can't touch the price if you try to to this yourself. After design, plywood, routing, and hardware it would cost way more. The fit is great and for me I felt it doesn't need to glued. Not bad looking either. After all it is a gym piece and better get dinged and scratched.not to hard to assemble. mine was messed up--i think it came with 2 identical sides instead of a left and a right. when i assembled it so that the handles were lined up on opposite sides of the box, the writing on one side is upside down. If i lined up the writing, then one handle was at the top of the box and one at the bottom. it works fine--just looks goofy with the upside down writing. Also the free leg bands are handy. I didn't think I would use them, but a running injury led to some posterior chain work and the bands have been great for that.Trying to press and tighten each screw with the included allen wrench was a pain. Like other reviewers I couldn’t find a compatible hex shaped drill bit UNTIL I tried this star shaped #15 drill bit, which worked!Box is high quality and looks exactly as advertised. Very pleased!This box has been great for box jumps and other exercises. I weigh 230 lbs and I have done jumps with a 20lb weight vest on and it has been very sturdy as I have landed. It was easy to assemble and I like the flexibility it has to switch heights.It's true. With this purchase you are paying for a box made of wood. Not just any box, though. Once assembled, the contents of this box seem unremarkable. However, you quickly learn that the box holds great potential. When used properly, this box can be an effective asset in your fitness arsenal.Folks, I weigh 300 pounds. I stand on this box while holding additional weight. The box is unimpressed, and continues exhibiting all of the boxy qualities that I have come to depend upon. If you need a box that is not easily impressed by your ability to stand on it, choose this one!Seriously, this plyo box assembles very easily from pre-cut plywood panels. They are all thick, sanded, and finished with fastener holes pre-drilled for easy assembly. You can even throw on some wood glue during assembly, if it makes you feel better. All sides are stable, square, and durable. Hand-holds make it easy to relocate the box where ever it is needed.These plyo boxes are simple, but so much more precisely made than I could have done myself. Stout and a good value. The only complaint I have is with the assembly instructions. Internal braces are included but I had to figure the assembly out myself.Best price out there for a plyo box, and the assembly hardware is better than other brands. Also this box is finished with varnish or clear coat and will not become stained or splinter along the edges and give slivers. I am very satisfied with this product. I did have to smooth out the corners of two notches to have the pieces fit together perfectly. But this was minor and easy.Not good for box jumps unless you are five year old. Not a wide enough base for jumping However very sturdy. Able to hold alot of weight. Easy to assemble. Great for lunges, step ups, my kids also use it to get at the sink. Perfect height for a living room side table when not in use.Better directions for putting it together would have been great, but I figured it out fairly quickly. Sturdy and has the 3 different heights for customizing the exercise. I can now keep up my workouts at home, if I cannot get to the gym or add more into my daily routine wile maintaining the standards I am meeting at the gym. So happy I bought one!!!I weigh 230lbs and I can hop up on this thing no problem. I was worried it wouldn't be strong enough but its fine!Don't buy this. The screws that mine came with are stripped and the Allen key doesn't even fit them. This is supposed to come with the tools necessary to assemble it, but the tools are defective.
